Mary (mother of James and Salome), Mary Magdelene, Simon Peter, and John gathered at dawn on Sunday at the tomb in which the body of Jesus had lain. There they found that the stone covering the tomb entrance had been rolled away and that the body of Jesus was not in the tomb. They soon learned that Jesus had risen from the dead! Alleluia!
So, we too gathered at sunrise on this Easter morning to celebrate the Resurrection. Across the road from our sanctuary is a cemetary. As our service began, the sun rose over the cemetery. In Christ's Resurrection we too are promised resurrection of our bodies to be rejoined with our souls into life everlasting. After hearing the Gospel and sermon telling us this good news, we processed with the Cross and the Paschal Candle into the sanctuary, bringing light into the church, and concluded the sunrise service with Holy Communion, the Sacrament of the Altar.
Following our sunrise service we broke our fast in the Parish Hall then assembled once again for the main worship service of the day.
He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
